CNOOC Supplies Over 1 Bln Cubic Meters of Gas to Macao

Updated: 2021-10-18

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced on Sept 17 that it has supplied more than 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Macao Special Administrative Region, providing reliable clean energy for the region's economic and social development.

The State Council released the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay in February 2019, stipulating that optimizing energy structure and layout should be a focus of the Greater Bay Area's development. It also called for building a clean, low-carbon, safe and highly-efficient energy supply system, developing green and low-carbon energy and accelerating the use of natural gas to guarantee safe and stable energy supplies in South China's Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao.

As the only natural gas supplier to Macao, CNOOC has served the development of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao by making full use of China-developed deepsea gas and import liquefied natural gas (LNG) and building a safe supply pattern with multiple gas sources in the Greater Bay Area.

The company has been supplying natural gas produced by its Huizhou 21-1 and Liwan 3-1 offshore gasfields in the South China Sea, as well as imported LNG, to Macao since 2008.

The Shenhai Yihao ultra-deepsea gasfield went into operation in June 2021, which improved natural gas production capacity in the area. The connection of main natural gas transmission pipelines in South China Sea will better support gas supply to the Greater Bay Area.

So far, CNOOC has provided safe and reliable natural gas for Macao for more than 13 years and will continue to contribute to the region's development.
