Uzbekistan's First Solar PV Power Station Goes into Operation

Updated: 2021-10-13

The Nur Navoi 100-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) power station, the first of its kind in Uzbekistan, recently went into operation.

Covering an area of 267 hectares, the station has nearly 300,000 solar panels and is expected to generate 278 million kilowatt-hours of power annually, an equivalent to burning about 80 million cubic meters of natural gas and eliminating about 160 metric tons of greenhouse gases.

This power will meet increasing industrial and domestic demand for sustainable energy in neighboring areas.

Once operational, the project is expected to push forward the development of the country's new energy sector and will create an annual power market valued at more than $1 billion while forming a power cluster in the area.

SEPCO Electric Power Construction Corporation, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China, is responsible for the project.
