Energy Produced in China's First Independently-Operated Ultra-Deep Offshore Gas Field Now in Service

Updated: 2021-10-08

Natural gas developed from the Shenhai Yihao (Deep-sea No. 1) ultra-deep offshore gas field about 150 kilometers from Sanya, South China's Hainan Province, was recently transferred to users in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The success of the transfer means that more than 10 gas fields in the South China Sea are now linked with each other from west to east.

The Shenhai Yihao gas field is expected to become a primary provider of clean energy for the Hainan Free Trade Zone and the Greater Bay Area.

China's first independently-operated ultra-deep offshore gas field, Shenhai Yihao, went into operation on June 25 this year and has an expected annual natural gas output of 3 billion cubic meters.

Thanks to Shenhai Yihao, the natural gas supply capacity of the South China Sea is expected to exceed 13 billion cubic meters annually, which can meet nearly half of the demand for natural gas in the Greater Bay Area.
