Construction of the Bogota Metro Line 1 in Colombia started on Aug 17 local time, marking ground breaking of Bogota's first metro.
The largest monomer project in Colombia, the metro will be built in an integrated mode combining investment, construction and operation.
With a franchise period of about 28 years, the project includes investment, financing, design, engineering, purchase, operation and maintenance of the 23.96-kilometer metro line that will have a rated operation speed of 42 kilometers per hour.
Once operational, the line will be an artery into the city linking its residential, commercial and political zones, which will greatly improve the current traffic situation. It is also expected to contribute to Bogota's future management and social and economic development.
China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd., a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company Limited, will participate in the project.
