First Chinese Central SOE-Contract Railway Bidding Project in EU Breaks Ground

Updated: 2021-08-31

The roadbed reinforcement phase of the Polish E75 railway project recently broke ground as an undertaking by STECOL CORPORATION of Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA).

It is the first railway bidding project in a European Union (EU) country to be contracted by a Chinese central state-owned enterprise.

Located in Podlaskie Province in northeastern Poland, the E75 railway project is about 107 kilometers from Warsaw, the capital city.

It is the last section of the modern railway line between Warsaw and Podlaskie and completes the Baltic Railway International Railway Line.

One of the most important investments of Poland in key domestic and international railways, the project is of great significance to infrastructure cooperation between China and Poland.

The project mainly consists of renovation of the 71.24-kilometer double-line electrified railroad from Chizhiv to Bialystok while guaranteeing normal operation of the line and construction of five modern stations.

The renovated line is designed with a speed of 160 kilometers per hour while maintaining open traffic.

The project is intended to ensure highly-efficient and safe operation by rebuilding the track system and the local traffic control center.

Upon completion, the E75 railway will meet the general standards of railway lines in force in EU countries.

Once operational, the railway is expected to strengthen railway capacity in Podlaskie and of the international Baltic railway connection line and improve competitiveness and attractiveness of railway transport, which will effectively promote the social and economic development of Poland.
