The China-aided national stadium in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, passed final inspection on Aug 16, marking completion of the symbol of Sino-Cambodian friendship.

The design of the stadium combines both Chinese and Cambodian cultural elements and its body's sailing ship shape implies the promising bond of traditional friendship between the two countries.

A result of the Belt and Road Initiative, the stadium is the largest stadium funded by the Chinese government in other countries and has the highest applicable capacity and standards.

With a total building area of about 80,000 square meters, the 60,000-seat stadium will serve as the main venue for tournaments when Cambodia hosts the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in 2023.

China State Construction Engineering Corporation was responsible for the project.
