The 650-megawatt Cairo West Supercritical Thermal Power Project completed 720 hours of reliable trial operation on Aug 8.
Built by China Energy Engineering Group Jiangsu No. 1 Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd., the project included construction of a 650-MW supercritical thermal power generator unit, the largest of its kind in Egypt.
The project is equipped with an oil and gas boiler, which has a faster starting speed and releases fewer air pollutants compared to the coal-fired boiler.
Once operational, the project is expected to generate 2 billion kilowatt-hours of power annually, which will relieve power shortages and meet the increasing power demands in affected areas.
