Developed by Xinhua Hydropower Company Limited, a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation, the project has a total installed capacity of 755 megawatts and a designed annual power output of nearly 2.19 billion kilowatt-hours.
It is one of the 172 major water conservancy projects approved by the State Council and the 100 key projects during China's 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20).
A major support for development of Xinjiang, it is expected to play a significant role in boosting sustainable economic development and promoting rural revitalization in southern areas of the autonomous region.
