The world's first 120-metric ton pure electric alternating current (AC)-drive mining dump truck was delivered for operation at South Open Pit Coal Mine in North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on July 22.
Jointly developed by South Open Pit Coal Mine of SPIC Nei Mongol Energy Co., LTD., a subsidiary of State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC), and Xiangtan Electric Manufacturing Group Heavy-duty Equipment Co. Ltd., the truck was renovated from the 100-ton traditional fuel-drive mining dump truck.
The renovated pure electric truck has zero pollutant emissions, low noise and low failure rate.
What's more, it incurs 20 percent less maintenance costs and consumes nearly 50 percent less energy than fuel-driven trucks with the same tonnage, an equivalent of reduction of more than 1,500 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
The delivery of the pure electric mining dump truck is expected to contribute to construction of a smart, unmanned, green and zero-carbon modern open pit mine and to realize SPIC's goal of peaking carbon dioxide emissions by 2023.
It is also a key step in Inner Mongolia's gaining control over high energy consumption.
Development of the truck is a demonstration of clean transformation in the coal industry and will play a crucial role in pushing forward China's mining equipment into a world-leading position.
