Construction of the expansion project at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, was recently completed and delivered to its operator.
One of the key livelihood projects of Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor Development Plan under the framework of Thailand 4.0, the project includes construction of a new terminal with a total building area of 216,000 square meters and 28 aircraft stands.
Upon completion of the project, the airport's passenger flow volume is expected to increase to 60 million annually, which will effectively relieve passenger pressure of the existing terminal and contribute to the country's tourism development.
It's worth noting that the project is the first of its kind in Thailand to use Building Information Modeling for the entire construction period and many advanced technologies like Dynamo, 3D printing and cloud computing were also adopted.
CSCEC International Operations and China Construction Science and Industry Corporation Ltd., both subsidiaries of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), were responsible for the construction.
The expansion is one of CSCEC's highlighted projects to follow the principle of high-quality Belt and Road construction in the Asia-Pacific region. Builders practiced the idea of building a community of a shared future and shaped a win-win situation with local governments and institutes.
They also helped drive development of related industries through coordinated construction, resource sharing and knowledge exchange and increased local employment by providing about 15,000 jobs.
