Main Body of World's Largest Pure Electric Cruise Ship Completed

Updated: 2021-07-19

The construction of the main body of the Yangtze River Three Gorges 1, the world's largest cruise ship to be completely powered by electricity, has been completed. The vessel is scheduled to undergo trial navigation tests by the end of this year.

The ship will be powered by a frequency direct current (DC) converting control power distribution system and equipped with battery management, energy management, power management, endurance monitoring and expert consultation systems.

It is expected to boost the development of smart, inland river, pure-electric passenger ships in China.

So far, key facilities such as DC networking and high and low voltage capacitor charging systems are being installed on the ship, followed by mooring and inclining tests.

The project, jointly launched by China Three Gorges Corporation and Yichang Transportation, will see the nation's builders gain experience in the design, construction and operation of such ships.
