Construction of the Kaliwa Dam has started in Rizal Province in the Philippines. The project is a milestone in the country's public water supply infrastructure.
The dam's diversion tunnel will be 21.8 kilometers long. "Jasmine", the China-developed hard rock tunnel boring machine, is to be used during tunnel excavation.
China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. will play a key role in dam construction.
Once operational, the project is estimated to supply 600,000 tons of water daily, which will relieve water shortages in the region and improve local livelihoods.
Meanwhile, the construction will help improve traffic conditions in the area and boost regional economic and social development.
Thousands of jobs will also be provided to local people during the project, and the Chinese contractor will also transfer mature engineering technologies to the country.
