Construction of China's First Self-Developed Floating LNG Storage and Regasification Ship Completed

Updated: 2021-07-15

China's first domestically-developed floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage and regasification ship was named TRANSGAS POWER on June 28 at the Changxing Island base of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC) in Shanghai.

It is the first of the two ships that will be developed, designed and built by CSSC's Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. for the Greece-based DYNAGAS company.

With a carrying capacity of 174,000 cubic meters, the ship could play the roles of both a traditional LNG transport ship and a land-based accepting station.

Its gas storage and regasification functions are also a highlight of the new ship. It is estimated that the ship has an annual regasification output of 4 million tons.

With the combined functions of LNG acceptance, storage, transport, gasification and export, the ship is described as "a large offshore mobile LNG station".
