The first steel box girder for the closure segment of the Peljesac Bridge in Croatia was recently hoisted.
Each of the steel box girders used in the CR4 section weighs 357.6 metric tons and is 29.7 meters long.
To meet the high precision requirements of the hoisting operation, special methods were used and took into account the welding of the closure segment, temperature effects, concrete shrinkage and creep.
China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC) is responsible for the hoisting of the section.
The six-tower single-plane cable-stayed bridge is about 3.94 kilometers long and has a main bridge span of 2,440 meters. It is the largest local traffic infrastructure project since China and Croatia established diplomatic ties in 1992.
Upon completion, it will stretch across the Mali Ston Bay in the Adriatic Sea, shortening travel time between the northern and southern regions of Croatia.
