World's Largest Individual Floating PV Power Station Connects to Grid

Updated: 2021-05-26

The first phase of the 200MW photovoltaic (PV) power generation project of the Huaneng Dezhou Dingzhuang reservoir in Shandong Province started operation and connected to the power grid on May 12.

It is currently the world's largest individual water surface floating photovoltaic power station.

One of China's first PV grid connected projects reaching grid parity as proved by the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration in 2019, the project obtained an investment of about 819 million yuan ($127.03 million).

With a total installed capacity of 320 megawatts, it is expected to produce 420 million kWh of power annually, equaling that produced by burning 205,000 tons of standard coal.

Based on the high-density polyethylene floating box and bracket-typed floating PV mounting system, and using a junction box, single crystal silicon double glass battery module and string inverter fixed on the floating body, the project does no harm to the water itself and is environmentally-protective. What's more, the project has a low basic cost and shorter engineering period.

It's worth mentioning that several innovative technologies like remote control, intelligent sensor and smart decision-making are to be used in the project, making it a key player benefiting improvement of Dezhou's energy structure.

POWERCHINA Hubei Engineering Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), was responsible for facility installation and adjustment in the project's first phase.
