CETC Releases Its First THz Communication System

Updated: 2021-05-18

China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) released its first independently-developed Terahertz (THz) communication system on May 7.

Based on THz communication technology, it is a solid-state electronic communication transmit-receive system working in the THz band, and a real-time communication device designed for super-fast and low-latency wireless transmission of uncompressed videos.

Data no longer needs to be compressed before transmission, as the system can provide enough wireless broadband. This reduces compressing and uncompressing time.

It also has high-speed transmission and performs well in extreme weather like sand storms and dense smoke, as the THz wave has strong penetrability.

What's more, the wave has a better directivity and shorter wave length compared to traditionally-used waves, making it safer to transmit data and more economical.

All the above advantages indicate that THz waves will be a key technology in the development of next generation 6G communication systems.

THz communication is also expected to play a role in emergency relief, telemedicine and police response technology.

In future 6G-based communication, the technology will work together with other low-frequency networks and be adopted in various ground-based situations. It might replace the optical fiber cables on platforms such as satellites, unmanned aerial vehicles and airships to realize a space-air-ground integrated communication.
