CSG Steps up Efforts to Support Air Protection in Hainan

Updated: 2021-04-26

China Southern Power Grid (CSG) recently released 20 measures on supporting peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality in South China's Hainan Province from the perspectives of energy, consumption and power grids.

CSG has contributed to creating an internationally leading business environment of power consumption in the region and aims to build a new type of power system centered on new energy and to build China's first demonstration provincial smart power grid by 2025.

It has also improved its power supply capacity and helped with Hainan's goals of establishing a clean, low-carbon, safe and highly efficient energy system and reaching peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality, which strongly supports construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

A safe, reliable, green, highly efficient and smart modern grid is a major part of new-energy-based contemporary power systems.

Taking advantage of CSG's platform, Hainan will link with South China's power market and receive more power from other regions.

CSG said that it intends to raise the proportion of imported clean energy in Hainan to 10 percent of the power consumption amount during China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.

What's more, the company plans to invest about 27 billion yuan ($4.16 billion) in improving and upgrading smart grids and in construction of the 500kV grid projects in the region during the period.

Development of new energy like solar and offshore wind power was also included in the measures recently released, as was promotion of nuclear power construction, reduction of coal-fired power and boosting of large-scale storage technology.

At the same time, a simple, highly efficient and transparent connection procedure of new energy power to the grid is also expected to increase consumption of new energy in Hainan.
