Construction of the main body of the first cross-sea railway bridge in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently started as engineering began on its first pile.
Contracted by Sinohydro Bureau 5 Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), the bridge is a single line ballast track freight railway built with 40-meter, 210-tonne T-shaped beams.
Located at Khalifa Port, the 1,013.5-meter bridge is a key section of the Etihad Rail project.
It is also a major part of the country's railway freight terminal project - a main player of the region's railway network connecting industrial, manufacturing and logistics centers with densely inhabited districts and the UAE's main ports.
Once operational, the bridge is expected to expand and improve the freight railway network and consolidate its role as a freight transport hub in the region.
The UAE also intends to build it into an international logistics center.
