World's Longest RCC Core Extracted from Gravity Dam

A 26.2-meter concrete core was recently extracted from the world's highest roller-compacted concrete (RCC) gravity dam at the DG hydropower station in Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

With a smooth surface and uniformly distributed aggregate, the core is currently the world's longest of its kind and shows the high quality of the hydropower station.

The dam has a crest elevation of 3,451 meters and a crest length of 385 meters.

A national key hydropower project and the largest hydropower station under construction in Tibet, the DG hydropower station is being constructed by Sinohydro Bureau 9 Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA).

Once operational, it will be a part of Tibet's power infrastructure and is expected to help relieve power shortages and promote leapfrog development of the regional economy.
