West Africa's Largest Hydropower Station Goes into Operation

All generator units at the Souapiti hydropower plant in the Republic of Guinea went into operation as the last generator unit passed 72-hour trial operation with all parameters meeting requirements on March 25 local time.

The hydropower project has an installed capacity of 450 megawatts and is capable of producing nearly 1.9 billion kWh of power annually on average, making it the largest of its kind in West Africa.

It will provide power to Guinea and neighboring countries, benefiting people in the region and boosting regional social and economic development.

China Three Gorges Corporation was an investor and the contractor of the plant.
