Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fibre Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group), successfully developed a colored meltblown cloth with high efficiency and low-resistance for mask production on March 16.
Such masks are to be provided to European countries as a contribution to prevention and control of the COVID-19 outbreak.
The meltblown cloth is to a mask what a heart is to a person. A core material to produce masks, it is often used as the middle layer. However, people in Europe prefer to wear colored mask. Given the meltblown cloth is white, its edges sometimes come out. Therefore, the public might give it a second thought.
In response to the problem, the company improved the production process and developed a colored meltblown cloth that maintains good performances in filtering, barrier, thermal insulation and adsorption, eliminating the white problem at the root.
Sinopec Group started to produce medical materials immediately after the COVID-19 outbreak. For example, its Sinopec Yanshan Petrochemical Company and Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fibre Co., Ltd. developed 16 meltblown cloth production lines within 76 days and completed the world's largest meltblown production base with an annual output of 13,500 tons. So far, the company has produced 4,764 tons of high-quality meltblown cloth, enough for production of nearly 5 billion masks.
