Central Gov't-Funded Hospital in Hong Kong Opens for Service

Updated: 2021-03-12

The central government-funded North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Center was launched on Feb 25, 2021, and the first 48 isolation beds are now available for patients.

Located west of the AsiaWorld-Expo in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), the hospital has a building area of about 44,000 square meters and features six inpatient buildings, one medical center and other supporting facilities.

Specially built for treatment of COVID-19 patients, it is capable of providing 136 wards and 816 negative pressure beds.

The newly-delivered fully-automatic nucleic acid detector is capable of handling about 1,500 samples daily.

China State Construction Engineering Corporation participated in the hospital's construction, which took only four months.

Built to standards of a permanent structure in Hong Kong, the hospital is the first of its kind built with the region's modular integrated construction method.
