100 Million-Ton Oil and Gas Field Discovered in Bohai Sea

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced on Feb 22, 2021, that it has discovered a field in the Bohai Sea, known as Bozhong 13-2, with a proved crude oil and natural gas reserve of 100 million tons of oil equivalent.

The field will play a role in stabilizing and improving production of China's offshore oil and gas as well as guaranteeing national energy security.

As a major breakthrough in China's oil and gas field exploration, the field will help improve the country's capacity in offshore oil and gas development.

Located in central Bohai Sea, the field is about 140 kilometers away from North China's Tianjin and has an average depth of 23.2 meters.

The well at the field had been sunk to 5,223 meters and oil and gas pay zones with a thickness of 346 meters have been found.

It is anticipated that the daily output of the well will be about 300 tons of crude oil and 150,000 cubic meters of natural gas.

CNOOC has made breakthroughs in exploration technology of complicated buried hill structures in recent years, discovering the Bozhong 19-6 and Kenli 6-1 oil and gas fields.

Upon completion, the Bozhong 13-2 field, together with Bozhong 19-6, is expected to be a main force in realizing the goal of a 40 million-ton output growth in the country's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25).
