South China's province of Guangdong is geared up for information infrastructure construction and 5G industry development with its industrial scale, user and base station numbers ranking tops in China, according to the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Guangdong Province.
So far, more than 124,000 5G base stations have been built in the province.
In recent years, China Southern Power Grid (CSG) cooperated with relative enterprises and succeeded in connecting the world's first 5G-based communication terminal to the first distribution differential protection power line in Bantian Street in Shenzhen, Guangdong.
It also promoted construction of 5G smart power distribution rooms and 5G charging stations to support development of a 5G digital monitoring control system, 5G intelligent road lamps and application of 5G unmanned aerial vehicles.
Based on 5G technology with advantages like low latency, large data volume and wide connectivity, CSG has developed a high-quality digital grid for enterprises, services and industry.
It cooperated with telecommunication operators, manufacturers and scientific research institutions on 5G based digital grid projects which have achieved positive results in standards, technology and applications.
The company also released the world's first white paper on its digital grid at the 2020 China Southern Power Grid International Technical Forum, which contributed to deepened integration and application innovation of the 5G and power grid business.
The mass application of 5G technology projects is now underway at the 500 kV Pengcheng transformer substation, a new generation 5G-based smart transformer substation.
CSG is now building a 5G power communication network that will form a smart grid based on such equipment as 5G cameras, robots and gateways as well as a full stack China-made data center, which is expected to ensure safe and highly-efficient power transmission, transformation and distribution and to improve the intelligence level of the urban power grid.
What's more, China's largest 5G smart power grid application demonstration zone launched in Guangzhou, Guangdong by the company includes 51 scenario applications and will support 5G virtual network construction in enterprises.
Yin Hao, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that 5G, together with other information technologies like cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, blockchain and edge computing, should be used to boost traditional industrial upgrading, incubate new applications and create new business models.
Such coordinative development is underway in Dongguan.
CSG built a charging station which is capable of storing and charging. The station, featuring 5G base stations and charging piles, is based on the internet of things and can recognize vehicles automatically through a smart 5G monitoring system.
The company will continue to work with enterprises in relative fields to promote high-quality development of 5G technology and grid businesses.
