China's Largest CCS Demonstration Project Completes Construction

Updated: 2021-01-26

Construction of China's largest carbon capture and storage (CCS) demonstration facility, with an annual capacity of 150,000 tons, was completed on Jan 21, 2021.

Located at China Energy Investment Corporation's Guohua Jinjie power station in Shaanxi Province, the project is a result of the station's innovation and practice in energy conservation and low-carbon development.

The facility is equipped with several highly-efficient and energy-saving technical skills like advanced chemical absorption methods and inter-stage cooling as well as devices and materials including a highly-efficient heat exchanger with low terminal difference, a high gravity reactor and modified plastic fillers.

With a designed carbon capture rate of more than 90 percent, the project is expected to provide technical support to carbon capturing in China's coal-fired power plants and contribute to the national carbon emissions reduction target under the framework of the Paris Agreement on climate change and promote green development.
