Updated: 2021-01-25

China Tower Corporation Limited (China Tower) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) signed an agreement on Jan 19, 2021, to construct video surveillance networks in rural areas.

Aiming to promote application of digital technology in such areas the two sides will make full use of China Tower's existing resources like signal towers, power systems and operation mechanisms to build the video surveillance network.

The network is expected to play a role in rural revitalization in aspects of digital village construction, farmland monitoring and smart fishery affairs.

The cooperation will also focus on legal enforcement of fishing bans along the Yangtze River, rural governance, monitoring of farm machinery, new agricultural infrastructure, living conditions of rural residents, and informatization of finance and insurance in villages.

So far, construction of more than 800 surveillance network projects has been completed.

China Tower has built about 155,000 stations along the Yangtze River to monitor illegal fishing in the area.

The company cooperated with the fishery enforcement department in Southwest China's Chongqing and installed cameras on more than 500 towers to supervise major sections of the Yangtze, Jialing and Wujiang rivers.

Advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and big data are also used in construction of the smart allocation system of fishery enforcement to realize 24/7 monitoring and early attention to illegal acts.

In Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin Province, China Tower built 400 video surveillance and meteorological stations to give real-time monitoring of local agricultural production.

China Tower now has 2.1 million communication towers and more than 1 million machine rooms. All of its base stations feature a complete power supply system and stable communication conditions.

The company has so far completed construction of China's largest tower sharing and video surveillance platform, which contributes to China's governance system construction and digital economic development by providing services for more than 30 industries including agriculture, water conservation, environmental protection, emergency response and traffic control.
