Updated: 2021-01-20

China United Network Communications Group Co., Ltd. (China Unicom), together with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., recently launched China's first 5G trans-border smart industrial park system in East China's Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces.

The world's first 5G plus MEC platform for multiple industrial parks, the system was launched in Ferrotec (China)'s facilities, which realized intensive operational capacity.

A material chip supplier, Ferrotec (China) has 30 plants in China and a trans-regional management and service system that is in strong demand.

Therefore, China Unicom and Huawei built special MEC resource pools in six of Ferrotec (China)’s industrial parks in Zhejiang and Jiangsu and launched an operation platform to allocate and manage the parks.

China Unicom also provided a solution to construction of plants based on 5G internet, MEC edging computing and network slicing technologies.

So far, the 5G SA-based plants have realized management, analysis and visualization of the lathes in the digital plant. Next, China Unicom will focus on development of visual inspection systems based on intelligent manufacturing data.

The emerging technologies are expected to improve processing efficiency and production quality.

Adhering to innovation-driven development, China Unicom has been in full swing in promoting application of such new technologies as 5G, the internet of things, big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence in various industries to realize its SOE reform and at the same time boost high-quality development of the economy.

In 2021, the company will continue to boost its independent capacity in research and development, integrate delivery ability and independent operation capacity, promote innovation of integrated products for governmental departments, enterprises and the public and accelerate all aspects of digital transformation to start a new journey of high-quality development.
