Updated: 2021-01-19

China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group (CECEP) was a main player in China's ecological protection during the country's 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20).

Business development

A large-scale central state-owned enterprise focusing on energy conservation and environmental protection, CECEP has more than 700 affiliated companies and does business in about 110 countries and regions.

In the past five years, the company, centered on improving quality and efficiency, has highly valued technological innovation and developed a healthy and sustainable development path.

So far, it has formed an industrial pattern centered on energy conservation, environmental protection, clean energy and health as well as comprehensive service.

The company has developed 33 new products, technologies and devices and built nine production lines.

Over that period it also improved its full-industrial chain covering nearly 20 industries and had outstanding performance particularly in solid waste treatment, water and air pollution control, land restoration, development and utilization of clean energy, and in the health industry; it also added energy saving in industry, engineering and developments in new materials to its accomplishments.

Over those five years the company produced nearly 63.69 billion kWh of green power, equaling the energy produced by burning nearly 21.23 million tons of standard coal, which contributed to carbon dioxide elimination.

In addition, CECEP established strategic cooperation with 78 local governments and enterprises to promote energy conservation and environmental protection.

Environmental protection along rivers

A main platform of the pollution control in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, CECEP has played its role in development of the region, integration of the Yangtze River Delta and ecological protection of the Yellow River Basin.

The company provided various solutions to different areas along the Yangtze River according to their environment conditions and resources.

So far, it has built several large solid waste treatment centers in city clusters of Chengdu and Chongqing, the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the Yangtze River Delta region, and developed a solid waste treatment system project in those areas.

By the end of October 2020, CECEP had completed 28 solid waste treatment projects in 11 provincial regions along the river with a daily treatment capacity of 22,000 tons.

Between 2016 and 2020, it signed more than 150 green projects along the river with a total investment of over 50 billion yuan ($7.72 billion).

Social responsibility

CECEP fulfilled its social responsibility during the five years in question.

By the end of 2020, it had invested more than 20 billion yuan in industrial projects in impoverished areas and attracted over 33 million yuan of poverty-alleviation funds from private enterprises and charity institutes.

What's more, it helped trained more than 4,000 grassroots cadres and technicians, sponsored over 2,400 undergraduates and provided more than 2,000 jobs for people from poverty-stricken families.

It also participated in construction of medical waste treatment centers for hospitals in Central China's Hubei Province during the COVID-19 outbreak.

In the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), CECEP will continue to be in full swing in environmental protection of the Yangtze River Delta region, the Yellow River Basin and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and will highly value core technology development to improve its ability to innovate, serve and remain competitive.
