China Mobile to Support Digital Economic Development in Zhejiang

China Mobile Limited (China Mobile) signed an agreement with the government of Zhejiang Province on Jan 7, 2021, to promote 5G-based new infrastructure construction, smart applications and digital economy in the region.

According to the contract, the two sides will focus on constructing major innovation carriers, promoting 5G plus projects and building low latency all optical networks during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25).

China Mobile's newly-established institute in Zhejiang will make full use of the company's advantages in technological innovation and industrial chains to promote integrated applications of 5G, artificial intelligence and big data.

It will boost construction of the information highway, drive development of other industries and meet users' digital demands by integrating new generation information technology into economic and social development in Zhejiang.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20), China Mobile and Zhejiang worked together to construct information infrastructure and to build an information highland in the Yangtze River Delta region. The effect was to accelerate development of the cloud service industry and advance 5G technology standards and commercial operation of 5G products and services.

During the five years, China Mobile invested more than 50 billion yuan ($7.72 billion) and constructed more than 130,000 4G and 5G base stations. Its optical fiber broadband internet is used in over 23 million households.

The company also contributed to construction of three information industrial parks, the joint 5G innovation center, and five laboratories for 5G technology study, 5G internet, evaluation of chips and terminators, application of big data and cloud computing.

What's more, thirteen application demonstration projects in innovation and entrepreneurship, smart cities, smart environmental protection and smart traffic led by China Mobile in Zhejiang have played a role in supporting the region's digital economic development.
