CNPC Holds Open Day Event for Aktobe Project

Updated: 2021-01-18

A livestreamed open house event was held at the Aktobe project in Kazakhstan by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) to show the project's oil field and CNPC's participation in local development.

China's first oil and gas cooperation venture, the Aktobe project included vitalization of an oil company with annual output of 2 million tons which has now developed into CNPC's Aktobe Oil and Gas Corporation, a large-scale oil company integrating gas field exploration and development, as well as oil and gas treatment, shipment and marketing.

The project has been hailed as an iconic model of oil and gas cooperation between China and Kazakhstan.

During the livestreaming, the audience was ushered to the H8010 well, a pre-salt oil field, which is capable of producing 2 million tons of oil annually thanks to advanced technologies.

The event has also showed the third oil and gas treatment plant.

According to an employee at the project, the workshop is mainly used to handle the associated gas that cannot be treated by other treatment plants and the gas cap gas that has yet to be developed.

The facility thus eliminates air pollution caused by burning natural gas and fully utilizes natural resources like light oil, natural gas, sulfur and propane.

At present, employees of more than 10 nationalities are working for the project and more than 97 percent of the workers in the oil and gas investment business are local residents.

Outstanding local employees are selected to attend training courses held in Kazakhstan, China and a third country each year and management courses are often organized for local managers.

CNPC's Aktobe Oil and Gas Corporation has invested and built a railway to ease commuting of its employees in 2006. Kazakhstan's first railway invested by a foreign company and built domestically, it has played a key role in export of farm and pasture products in affected areas.

Ten years later, in 2016, the company invested in renovation of the Arts Center of Aktobe which opened to the public in 2017. Able to accommodate as many as 15,000 visitors, the center contributes a lot to cultural and sports events for young people.

With development of the Belt and Road Initiative, Kazakhstan and China have become a community with shared benefits and will deepen cooperation in the energy field in the new era.
