CNOOC Completes Renovation of Asia's Largest Offshore Oil, Gas Platform

Updated: 2020-12-23

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) completed renovation of the Liwan 3-1 central platform, Asia's largest offshore oil and gas platform, on Dec 19.

The renovation is expected to expand natural gas production periods of the Liwan 3-1 gas field and to provide the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) with sustainable green power.

The Liwan 3-1 gas field is one of the natural gas sources of the GBA. Natural gas produced from the field will be transmitted to the Liwan 3-1 platform and sent to Zhuhai in South China's Guangdong province after primary processing.

Located about 1,500 meters underwater in the South China Sea, the Liwan 3-1 is China's first deepwater gas field.

It has produced more than 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas since it went into operation in 2014.
