World's First Opposed Multi-Nozzle Semi-Waste Gasifier Starts Operation

Updated: 2020-12-22

The No. 3 gasifier of the polyoxymethylene dimethyl ethers (PODE) project of Shandong Energy Group Co., Ltd. went into operation on Dec 10.

The world's first opposed multi-nozzle semi-waste gasifier, the No. 3 unit has advantages in safe, stable and reliable operation. The large-scale facility also performs well in efficiency, environmental protection and energy saving.

Compared to traditional chill gasifiers, the newly-operational unit is equipped with a radiant waste boiler which can improve total thermal efficiency by about five percent and lower comprehensive energy consumption by 10 percent.

The high-pressure saturated steam produced during operation will be used to power large steam turbines, which will greatly promote economic effectiveness of large-scale chemical projects.

The project is the largest of its kind in China and will have an annual PODE output of about 500,000 tons.

Consisting of facilities like gasification, slag water treatment and low temperature methanol cleaning equipment, it is also designed to produce such products as methanol and PODE, which are widely used in all industrial fields.

Primarily contracted by China Tianchen Engineering Corporation, a subsidiary of China National Chemical Engineering Group Corporation Ltd., it also has a supporting project which is capable of converting 900,000 tons of coal to methanol annually.
