A freight-dedicated Class I national railroad, the Datong-Qinhuangdao railway connects Datong in Shanxi Province and Qinhuangdao in Hebei Province. It is the first heavy haul railway being used to transport coal.
The railway has a whole set of heavy haul transportation technology systems with proprietary intellectual property rights. China is one of the few countries to have mastered such technology.
