The Sesan II Hydropower Plant, the largest hydropower cooperation project between China and Cambodia, was completed and went into operation on Dec 17, 2018.

Invested, developed and operated by a subsidiary of China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. in the BOT mode, the plant has a 6,500-meter dam, the longest in Asia.

Installed with eight China-manufactured 50,000 kW bulb tubular units, the plant has an installed capacity of 400,000 kW, nearly 20 percent of Cambodia’s national output and the highest output level of any station of its kind in the country.

The project was built to Chinese standards with Chinese technologies and equipment and was operated under a Chinese management system.

It plays a key role in advancing development of hydropower resources in the Mekong River Basin.
