China Tower Facilitates Poverty Alleviation in Henan

Updated: 2020-12-15

A subsidiary of China Tower Corporation Limited (China Tower) in Xinyang, Central China's Henan province, has helped lifting the city's impoverished areas out of poverty for the past nearly six years.

Located in the Dabie Mountains old revolutionary base area, Xinyang has seven poverty-stricken counties.

China Tower's Xinyang subsidiary has been a main force in communication infrastructure construction in these impoverished areas.

So far, the company has invested about 330 million yuan ($50.42 million) and built more than 1,500 base stations, giving more than 700 villages access to the internet.

Thanks to such infrastructure construction as communications facilities and 5G base stations, the company also brought hope to promote local products to other regions via the internet.

Xinyang is home to Maojian tea, a kind of green tea. It's become popular on the internet through promotion on the e-commerce platforms and livestreaming, with China Tower's efforts in accelerating 5G network construction.

In the past two years, thousands of hundreds of packs of Maojian tea have been sold nationwide, which drove local economic growth and increased villagers' income.
