First China-developed guided-missile destroyer CNS Jinan starts service on Dec 12, 1971
The first China-developed guided-missile destroyer CNS Jinan started service in the People's Liberation Army Navy on Dec 12, 1971.
The destroyer's features included fast navigational speed and a long cruising range. Installed with advanced equipment like tri-ship-to-ship missile launchers, high-parameter and robust power plants and destroyer-dedicated radar, the vessel had strong fire power.
Manufactured on a trial basis by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, the destroyer was contributed to by more than 260 ship yards in 22 provincial regions in China.
A multi-functional destroyer, Jinan was China's first middle-sized surface ship of the People's Liberation Army Navy and proof that the country was able to self-develop such destroyers.
Jinan was decommissioned on Nov 13, 2007 and is now displayed at the Chinese Navy Museum in Qingdao, Shandong Province.
