CSG Contributes to Poverty Alleviation in Guizhou

Guizhou Power Grid Co., Ltd. of China Southern Power Grid (CSG) has made all-out efforts to poverty-alleviation in Southwest China's Guizhou province since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012.

So far, Guizhou Power Grid Co., Ltd. has provided 37.84 million yuan ($5.78 million) as poverty-alleviation funds, introduced nearly 300 million yuan of investment, and developed and brought in more than 300 poverty-alleviation projects, lifting more than 40,000 impoverished people out of poverty.

Poverty-alleviation management system

Guizhou Power Grid Co., Ltd. kept improving its poverty-alleviation management system, coordinated and allocated various kinds of resources. It has established an assistance mechanism in which its provincial subsidiary coordinated the overall situation and local power supply branches in responsible for organization and implementation.

The company also built a poverty-alleviation information platform for data and resources sharing and dynamic monitoring of poverty-alleviation progress.

Power grid construction

Guizhou Power Grid Co., Ltd. improved Guizhou's electricity infrastructure to ensure power access of all the villages. Guaranteeing high-quality power supply to local villagers is also a goal of the company.

What's more, the company participated in a power guarantee campaign to benefit resettlement areas, where new home are provided for people living in impoverished regions with no sustainable conditions. Now, electricity is available for more than 1.77 million relocated residents.

The company also completed 283 rural power grid construction projects within 90 days, 210 days ahead of schedule.

Poverty alleviation through consumption

Guizhou Power Grid Co., Ltd. has launched a consumption-based poverty-alleviation platform to help sell local agricultural products.

To solve the problem caused by unsalable products, the company also opened a special zone on CSG's e-commerce platform to promote Guizhou’s local products to other regions.

In addition, it established sales companies and built an online vegetable selling platform, through which local products valued at about 5.43 million yuan have been sold.

Local laborer recruitment

Guizhou Power Grid Co., Ltd. encouraged contractors of its construction projects to prioritize recruitment of local laborers to help improve employment in poverty-stricken areas in Guizhou. Now, there are about 29,500 local people working at its projects.

All poverty-stricken counties in the province were announced delisted from poverty list on Nov 23.
