Great Intelligence, the world's first intelligent ship, starts service in Shanghai on Dec 5, 2017

Great Intelligence, the world's first intelligent ship, was delivered to China Merchants Group and went into service in Shanghai on Dec 5, 2017.

Developed by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, the 179-meter long, 32-meter wide and 15-meter deep ship can carry as much as 38,800 tons of goods.

The ship is equipped with an intelligent navigation system which can collect information and data of its own operations as well as ocean currents while providing time-saving, fuel-efficient and low costs routes under preferred oceanic conditions.

In addition, the intelligent system works together with the maintenance system to assess the ship's equipment and alert the crew to any potential safety hazards.

Compared with common bulk cargo ships that can carry the same weight of goods, the smart ship has three percent higher propulsive efficiency and uses six percent less oil than ships with the same navigational speed.

Construction of the Attanagalla Water Supply Plant, the largest individual supply project in Sri Lanka, started on Dec 5, 2014.

The project included construction of a water treatment plant that can purify 54,000 tons of water per day, a water intake facility capable of supplying 85,000 tons of water per day and supporting facilities like a 720-kilometer pipeline.

A priority project supported by the government, the project efficiently relieved drinking water shortages and drove local employment by creating more than 1,000 jobs.

It is a major livelihood project that would benefit more than 600,000 people on completion .
