Construction of Middle East's Largest Container Freight Station Completed

Updated: 2020-12-04

Construction of the first phase of the Khalifa Port freight terminal project in Abu Dhabi, the largest container freight station in the Middle East, was recently completed.

Located at Khalifa Port, the roughly 274,000-square-meter project was to be built in two phases. The first phase just completed covers about 156,000 sq m and includes a 53,000 sq m steel-structured warehouse, six main supporting buildings, 12 interior supporting buildings for the warehouse and ancillary facilities.

Once operable, the station will provide services like container transport and packaging.

By linking the container port with the industrial zones, the station will play a role in building a competitive regional logistics hub and a shipping service.

China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. and CCCC First Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd., both subsidiaries of China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC), have participated in construction of the project.
