Northwestern province of Gansu announced on Nov 21 that the province's Linxia county has been de-listed from poverty.
It signals that Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited (Nam Kwong), the only Macao-based enterprise shouldering paired up poverty alleviation mission, has completed its goal of lifting two counties out of poverty.
In recent years, Nam Kwong carried out 64 poverty-alleviation projects in Linxia county in Gansu and Luquan county in Southwest China's Yunnan province in the fields of education, industry, employment, product sales, infrastructure construction and medical systems. About 48,500 local people were benefited from these projects.
The company also promoted cooperation between the two counties and Macao-based firms to introduce local high-quality products to Macao, which widened marketing channels and improved the flow of economic benefits to the poverty-stricken villagers.
So far, Nam Kwong has directly provided 51 million Hong Kong dollars ($6.58 million) of poverty funds, introduced 16.4 million yuan ($2.49 million) of investment in poverty-alleviation projects and helped attract an additional 10.62 million yuan.
The company will continue to make full use of local resources to contribute to rural revitalization.
