World's First High-Speed Railway Arch Cable-Stayed Bridge Makes Key Progress

The main tower of an arch cable-stayed bridge crossing the Shimen-Changsha Railway completed rotation on Nov 23.

The bridge, the world's first high-speed railway bridge with an arch cable-stayed design, is part of the Yuanjiang River Grand Bridge project.

It is a key section of the Changde-Yiyang-Changsha railway project in Central China's Hunan province, and its rotation guaranteed the on-schedule completion of the railway.

Contracted by China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, the bridge is expected to be a landmark in Changde.

According to the company, some special systems have been adopted in the bridge's construction for the first time to reduce engineering risks and construction costs.

Another 544-meter bridge of the Yuanjiang River Grand Bridge project is now under construction. 

The 156.82-kilometer Changde-Yiyang-Changsha high-speed railway is a crucial part of two railways of China's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network.

Its operation, which is scheduled to begin in 2022, will effectively promote integrated development of the urban agglomeration of Changsha, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan in Hunan and will play a significant role in improving transportation structure in northwest Hunan.
