New Railway Linking Jiangxi, Fujian to Boost Poverty Alleviation

The Daiyunshan No. 2 Tunnel of the Xingguo-Quanzhou Railway linking Jiangxi and Fujian provinces was dug through on Nov 16, 15 days ahead of schedule.

The tunnel at 12,790 meters is the second-longest of the Xingguo-Quanzhou Railway. A key section of the railway, it winds through an unfavorable geologic belt.

Tunneling of the Daiyunshan No. 1 Tunnel, the longest of the railway, was completed on May 29 this year.

The Xingguo-Quanzhou Railway, with a total investment of 51.5 billion yuan ($7.82 billion), was contracted by China Railway 18th Bureau Group Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited.

The 498.8-kilometer electrified railway is designed for both freight and passenger transport. Upon completion in 2021, counties like Ningdu and Shicheng in Jiangxi as well as Ninghua, Datian, Dehua and Yongchun in Fujian will enjoy their first railway access.

What's more, the railway will play a role in boosting economic and social development in old revolutionary bases in affected areas and consolidating achievements of poverty alleviation.
