Updated: 2020-11-18

Supported by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), the 2020 International Forum for Energy Transition was jointly hosted by the World Economic Forum and the State Grid Corporation of China in Beijing on Nov 10.

Zhao Aiming, Vice-Chairman of SASAC, attended the high-level meeting and delivered a keynote speech.

Zhao noted that in recent years, central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have proactively implemented and acted on the new development philosophy, made consistent efforts to improve the structure of energy production and consumption, increased the efficiency of energy utilization and intensified efforts to save energy and reduce emissions.

Meanwhile, central SOEs have strengthened cooperation on clean energy projects under the Belt and Road Initiative, made noticeable achievements in the acceleration of China's green and low-carbon development, and contributed greatly to global energy transition and sustainable development.

Zhao added that China will begin a new journey toward fully building a modern socialist country. In response to the new development stage and paradigm, central SOEs are expected to focus on the target of carbon neutrality in 2060, the long-range objectives through 2035 and major economic and social development targets for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), promote the formation of clean energy-dominated production patterns, leverage technological innovation to systematically reshape the energy industry, continue to deepen global cooperation on energy in a comprehensive manner, and make due contributions to the goals of building a beautiful China, a clean and beautiful world, and a community with a shared future for mankind.

Themed on "Sustainable Development in the Post-COVID-19 Era", the forum was attended by senior officials from many countries, foreign envoys to China, heads of international organizations, and executives from domestic and foreign energy firms either online or offline.
