Suspension bridge with the longest span in Africa opens to traffic on Nov 10, 2018, in Mozambique

The Maputo-Katembe Bridge in Mozambique, a suspension bridge with the longest main span in Africa, opened to traffic on Nov 10, 2018.

Contracted by China Communications Construction Company Limited, the bridge is about 3,000 meters long and 680 meters wide.

It will become a section of the highway connecting Cairo, Egypt with Cape Town in southern Africa, linking the continent's southern and northern regions.

One of the iconic projects of infrastructure construction cooperation between China and Mozambique, the Maputo-Katembe Bridge will promote development and prosperity in the affected areas.

'Explorer', China's first autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), is developed and passes inspection on Nov 10, 1994

"Explorer", China's first autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), was developed and passed inspection on Nov 10, 1994.

The 4.4-meter long vehicle has a load capacity of 2.2 tons.

A wireless AUV integrating searching and surveying functions, the vehicle can dive as deep as 1,000 meters and can reach as far as 12 sea miles.

Its complete machine performance and main technical performance indexes were among the best of its kind in the world at that time.

China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited participated in its development.
