CIIE has Evolved into Product Debut Platform

Updated: 2020-11-09 (China Daily Global)

The annual China International Import Expo has become a magnet for exhibitors to debut their new products and new technologies, said multinational executives.

They added that this is a reflection of the Chinese market's growing significance to the global economy as the country's "dual circulation" economic development model-in which the domestic and international markets complement each other, with the domestic market as the mainstay-takes shape.

Regardless of the ongoing global pandemic, China has successfully contained its spread, and the third CIIE is taking place as scheduled. With its gigantic market potential, China has attracted 39 new products and technologies to launch during the event, with 24 of them claiming a global debut and 12 making their first appearance in Asia, according to the event organizer.

During his keynote speech delivered via video at the opening ceremony of the third CIIE, President Xi Jinping said China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) has set out to foster the new development paradigm.

"The dual circulation new development mode that President Xi noted in his speech is not only based on the needs of China's development, but also for the well-being of people across the world," said Pascal Bizard, senior vice-president of Decathlon China. "The vast domestic demand of the Chinese market is inspiring us to continuously innovate."

After 30 months of research and development, France-based Decathlon, the world's largest comprehensive sporting goods company, launched the world debut of its inflatable kayak.

Tony Acciarito, president of Thermo Fisher Scientific (China), said: "At the backdrop of a dual circulation economic development model, we are extremely optimistic about the Chinese market's great demand and huge potential. This is why we decided to launch new products at the CIIE."

Thermo Fisher Scientific is globally launching its automated nucleic acid purification system at the CIIE. The system can make nucleic acid extraction faster, safer and more accurate, aoording to the company.

This is the third year in a row that Thermo Fisher Scientific has taken part in the CIIE. Acciarito said the annual event has provided enterprises with a perfect platform to showcase cutting-edge technologies and make product debuts, and is an important channel for meeting clients.

Industrial players' confidence in China is based on its population of 1.4 billion, a middle-income group that exceeds 400 million, and the estimated $22 trillion in total imports that China expects in the coming decade.

Li Zhiming, general manager of ANCS China, said, "China became the sole nation to report positive economic growth in the third quarter, and China's decision to further open up has made us extremely confident that China will become the most important market for our company in the future."

Germany-based Air Natural Capacity Solution debuted its medical personal protective system in response to the current global COVID-19 outbreak. The system is designed to meet the needs of frontline healthcare workers for safe, convenient and comfortable work, as well as protect them from harmful particles, viruses and bacteria in the air, according to the company.

Japanese company Fancl, which is among enterprises tapping the Chinese people's upgraded consumption requirements for nutrition, launched its new nutrition pack series during the CIIE. It enables people between the ages of 20 and 60 to find suitable nutrition packages to meet their respective daily nutrient requirements.

Milk New Zealand Dairy, which said it has benefited from successful product launches at the previous two CIIEs, decided to globally debut its instant fresh milk powder at this year's expo.

"The CIIE has become the golden key for the dual circulation economic development pattern, and in order to become part of the enormous Chinese market, we are continuously taking the CIIE as the platform for introducing high-quality brand and products to China," said Sheng Wenhao, CEO of Milk New Zealand Dairy Asia-Pacific.

Gu Chunyuan, chairman of ABB China, said: "The CIIE is the stage for expanding international collaboration and promoting technological innovation. ABB regards CIIE as a precious opportunity for showcase and for sharing."

ABB debuted a gas leak detection system that provides accuracy, ruggedness and reliability in the examination of gas pipeline networks, according to the company.

"Our successful participation at the previous two CIIEs has encouraged ABB to bring more than 50 innovative products and research and development achievements from 14 countries to this year's CIIE," said Gu. "We have already confirmed our participation for next year."

Ophthalmic optics company Essilor made a global public debut of lens solutions to cope with a worldwide increase in myopia.
