The Y-12F fixed-wing aircraft equipped with a time-domain electromagnetic system flying platform recently had its successful maiden flight, a milestone in China's airborne geophysical prospecting industry.
The Y-12F aircraft has five coils which are used for electromagnetic pulse transmission.
The aircraft completed trial flights carrying two coils on Oct 10 and will be capable of carrying out missions when it has passed trial operations with five coils.
A part of the national key project of deep-earth resource exploitation, the time-domain aircraft was developed by AVIC Harbin Aircraft Industry Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Aviation Industry Corporation of China Ltd.
