CNOOC's Large-Scale Gas Field Goes into Operation

Updated: 2020-10-30

The Bozhong 19-6 gas and condensate field with 100 billion cubic meters of oil equivalent started production on Oct 22.

Developed by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), the project included construction of a pile jacket and an offshore platform, two undersea pipelines, and a treatment plant as well as renovation of another two offshore platforms and installation of a submarine cable.

The project is expected to produce as much as 330 million cubic meters of gas and 302,000 cubic meters of oil annually.

A short-term offshore natural gas development demonstration project, it was built within 14 months under the exploration, development and production integrated management mode.

Lower wellhead platforms were used to drill wells on both sides of the platform at the same time, which shortened the construction period. The project currently has the shortest construction period of its kind in China.

According to CNOOC, the Bozhong 19-6 field is the first large-scale and monoblock gas and condensate field with high output.

It has a proved in-place volume of 180 million cubic meters of oil reserve and 171.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

The field will greatly relieve gas shortages in North China and provide energy for green and low-carbon development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. It will also play a role in guaranteeing national energy security.
