The Songhua River highway-railway dual-use bridge, China's first modern dual-use bridge built for an extremely cold area, was completed and opened to traffic on Oct 30, 2016.
The bridge was inspected and designed by China Railway Construction Corporation Limited. The over 40,000 tons of steel used for the main bridge's box beam was provided by Ansteel Group, the first time the company's steel has been used in a dual-use bridge.
Located between the Harbin East Railway Station and Xinsongpu Station, the bridge has two levels -- the upper one is a highway with a designed speed of 60 kilometers per hour and the lower is a railway on which trains can run at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour.
During construction, builders solved technical difficulties like complicated linear control of girder construction and high closure accuracy, setting models for future dual-use bridge construction in extremely cold regions in China.
