China-France Oceanography Satellite, dubbed CFOSAT, is launched by a Long March-2C on Oct 29, 2018

The China-France Oceanography Satellite, also known as CFOSAT, was launched by a Long March-2C from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Northwest China's Gansu Province on Oct 29, 2018.

Primarily developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, it was the first satellite jointly built by China and France and is used to monitor the ocean environment.

Simultaneous observation of ocean surface winds and waves was realized for the first time thanks to the satellite.

Detection data collected by the satellite is shared by scientists in both countries researching global climate change. It is also used for exchanges with other countries.

The data is significant in China's research on the global ocean environment and climate change and offers all countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative technical support in marine disaster prevention and mitigation and the study of climate change.
