China's first lunar probe, Chang'e-1, was put into orbit by a Long March 3A rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Southwest China's Sichuan Province on Oct 24, 2007.
Primarily developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, Chang'e-1 was the first domestically developed lunar probe in China and made breakthroughs in many key technologies including orbit design, thermal control, and the measuring and controlling and guiding systems.
Launching of the Chang'e-1 lunar probe was a key step of the country's lunar exploration project and played a significant role in promoting China's aerospace industry development in the interspace field, improving its independent innovation capacity and accelerating its scientific and technological progress.
